The Miles Davis Quintet: Miles Smiles versie op vinyl LP in standaard editie. Deze specifieke uitgave werd uitgebracht in Europa bij uitgeverij Columbia in samenwerking met Music On Vinyl op 31. juli 2015.
The magnificent 1967 post-bop album "Miles Smiles" was recorded with the second of the great quintets under the auspices of Miles Davis. It features saxophonist Wayne Shorter, pianist Herbie Hancock, bassist Ron Carter and drummer Tony Williams. The album exemplifies Davis' willingness to experiment with less strict structures, tempos and bars. Although he did not follow the conventions of bop, it was not yet free jazz. "Critics praised the original compositions, the quintet's interplay, and Davis' "phrasing." The album was rated "Essential! One of the best quintet albums" and "Footprints" and "Dolores" were hailed as "some of the best jazz compositions of all time". "Miles Smiles" is sure to become an important part of the Miles Davis discography, both for the trumpeter's brilliance and for the lessons Williams and Carter give us about the functions and dynamic range of jazz. Review "All involved, however, play at a top level, and Shorter's solo on 'Dolores' is first-rate. And the full-speed bouncer 'Ginger Bread Boy' should put a smile on the face of even opponents of '60s jazz." (Good Times, February/March 2015)
Album valt binnen het genre Jazz, Modaal, Harde pop en Post Bop. 180g Vinyl.
