The Mamas & The Papas were founded by Michelle and John Phillips (formerly The New Journeymen). They were joined by founding members Denny Doherty and Cass Elliot, who had previously played in The Mugwumps. The newly formed group initially wanted to call themselves The Magic Circle before the final decision was made in favour of The Mamas & The Papas. The band was inspired by the Hells Angels, who refer to their members as "The Mamas". The band released five studio albums in just four years, which yielded seventeen singles, six of which even reached the top ten on the Billboard charts. Having sold 40 million albums worldwide, The Mamas & The Papas were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1998 for their contributions to the music industry. Their first single "Go Where You Wanna Go" was released in 1965 and their second single "California Dreamin'" was released the same year and immediately conquered the charts. Their album "You Can Believe Your Eyes And Ears" was released in 1966 and remains their only number one album on the Billboard charts. "Monday, Monday", the third and final single from their debut album, helped the band finally break through worldwide and remains the band's only number one single to this day. In 1966, The Mamas & The Papas recorded their second studio album. Upon its release, the album reached number four in the US - and number 14 in Germany. The first single from this album was "I Saw Her Again", followed by "Words Of Love" and "Dancing in the Street" as the second and third singles. The album "Deliver" was released in the fall of 1966 and featured the singles "Look Through My Window", "Dedicated To The One I Love" and "Creeque Alley". "Glad To Be Happy" was another single that was not included on any album. Mama Cass Elliot later launched a successful solo career associated with hits like "Make Your Own Kind Of Music" and "It's Getting Better". The collection contains all the hits and milestones of The Mamas & The Papas, as well as Mama Cass Elliot, and on 64 tracks offers a great overview of the most important and beautiful works.
