The church came together in Australia in 1980. Their ringing guitar pop combined with emotive and witty lyrics became an instant hit in Australia and beyond. They recorded their seventh album "Starfish" in Los Angeles with producers Waddy Wachtel and Greg Ladanyi - two veterans of the Los Angeles scene. When "Starfish" was released in 1988, it became THE CHURCH's breakthrough album in the US. The album reached #41 on the Billboard 200 chart - not bad for a band not from the US! The track "Under The Milky Way" was released as a single and just missed the throne of the mainstream rock charts at No. 2, but still reached No. 26 on the Billboard Hot 100. "Reptile" was released as the second single.
