The album Songs from the Big Chair by Tears for Fears, released in 1985, was an instant success, reaching number one in both the United States and the United Kingdom. The album's title track "The Big Chair" commented on the role of the media in society, and the album's lyrics dealt with topics ranging from the Cold War to the dangers of nuclear weapons. The album's sound was a blend of new wave and pop and its singles, including "Shout", "Everybody Wants to Rule the World" and "Head over Heels", became hits around the world. Songs from the Big Chair went triple platinum in the United States and sold more than 10 million copies worldwide.
