The album before the album After leaving Nightwish about ten years ago and embarking on a solo career, Tarja Turunen has already released five successful studio albums. To shorten the wait for a sixth album for her fans, the Finnish soprano and composer came up with something very special in 2016: an album in advance. "The Brightest Void" is the title of the nine-song preview of the album "The Shadow Self", which will be released on August 5. According to Turunen, it was because she simply had too many songs for one album. So the singer simply made it into two albums that stand completely on their own, but still belong together. The first single "No Bitter End" was released in April 2016 and clearly shows what we can expect on the new album: the best symphonic metal and rock with massive guitar riffs and driving drums. "The Brightest Void" is so much heavier than its predecessors - although Tarja's angelic voice is of course omnipresent. The singer is supported on the record by Finnish glam rock icon Michael Monroe, Dutch Within Temptation and Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith. In addition to many original tracks, "The Brightest Void" also features two cover versions, namely the James Bond theme "Goldfinger" by Shirley Bassey and "House Of Wax" by Paul McCartney. The album before the album? That's something to get used to. But "The Brightest Void" is not only a welcome diversion until the next album, but another great symphonic rock album that stands completely on its own.
