Ctrl is the debut studio album by American singer-songwriter SZA , released on June 9, 2017 by Top Dawg Entertainment and RCA Records. The album features guest appearances by Kendrick Lamar, Isaiah Rashad and Travis Scott, among others. Production was handled by SZA , along with a number of other producers including DJ Dahi, Terrace Martin and Thundercat. The album title, Ctrl, refers to a keyboard command that allows the user to control the cursor on a computer screen. SZA said the album is about "the power of self-control and self-actualization" and that it is "a personal album about finding control in a world that is constantly trying to control me." The album Ctrl debuted at number three on the US Billboard 200 chart, selling 69,000 units in its first week in the United States. The album eventually went platinum in September 2018 from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), marking shipments of more than one million copies in the United States.
