"In the cage, in the cage you stay, they'll trap you for life" While the pandemic crippled the whole world and made it impossible for bands to perform, the biggest Latin American metal export SEPULTURA refused to sit with folded arms and stay like a caged animal. Like the flowers growing out of the body of a dead bird depicted on Eduardo Recife's stunningly colourful cover, the thrash metal pioneers from Belo Horizonte took advantage of the unexpectedly free time to launch a project that kept them busy throughout 2020: "'Sepulquarta' was born at the very beginning of the pandemic, when everything came to a standstill," recalls guitarist Andreas Kisser. "We released a new album, but we couldn't tour for it. So we created this recurring event where we could talk to our fans all over the world, play our music and share it, it was a blast! "Sepulquarta" kept us alive and strong during one of the most difficult times in human history." "Creating Sepulquarta allowed me to stay in touch with the music during that time. Playing an instrument was the only thing I could still do during this pandemic," adds drummer Eloy Casagrande, "and music really seemed like a good way to cope with the endless isolation and fear of loss and isolation that haunted people around the world. Apparently the Brazilian pioneers weren't the only ones who felt this way, and so they began reaching out to friends and colleagues around the world, asking them not only to participate in their weekly podcast, but also to join them in playing one of SEPULTURA's classic tracks. From the safety of home, international stars such as David Ellefson, Scott Ian, Danko Jones, Devin Townsend, Matt Heafy and many more joined the band to record the SEPULTURA track, which has now been mixed and mastered by Conrad Ruther and will be released on CD, 2LP and all streaming platforms. "We invited our incredibly talented friends to participate in our project, whether they were jamming with us or were guests in the many Q&A sessions we hosted," Andreas explains. "We talked about our history, music, politics, sports, philosophy, depression and the environment, among other things. With knowledgeable guests and many of the great minds of today, we learned a lot. You'll find unique performances of SEPULTURA music from many stages of our career with amazing guest musicians who lent their talent and energy to record these historic versions!"
