"The Shadowthrone" is the second album by the Norwegian black metal band. "Shadowthrone" starts with a battle cry that leaves the listener in no doubt - this is no joke! With its anthemic atmosphere and direct lyrics "Hvite Krists Død", the song has become a concert favourite and Fenriz of Darkthrone once jokingly suggested it as an anthem for Norwegian black metal. It's an atmospheric and symphonic album with a strong Nordic feel. There are fewer acoustic guitars and medieval influences and it's heavier and gloomier than the debut, though it retains the atmosphere. Samoth played with Satyricon on this album and was drawn by Tania Stene, who did the classic paintings for Darkthrone on their first albums.
