"No matter what time it is, the party has just started..." Album number one 3121 will once again be available on CD and - for the first time ever - on vinyl, even in Prince's iconic purple! Originally released in 2006, Prince's album is a real groove. From the tender "Te Amo Corazon" to the addictive rhythm of "Black Sweat". Prince has always had a soft spot for certain numbers and combinations of numbers, and in the mid-2000s the number "3121" took on a special meaning. At the time, Prince was living in L.A. and named the mansion he rented where he partied and recorded his songs "3121" after the house number. Those four digits were also the title of his new album, which was released on March 21, 2006. The lyrics of the title track are dedicated to the party atmosphere Prince cultivated in his mansion: "Through the gate / Knock on the door / Put your clothes in a pile, on the floor / Choose from Japanese dresses and sandals / Drink champagne from a glass with chocolate handles." The LPm features past band members and new future bandmates: drummer Michael Bland and bassist Sonny Thompson, two original members of the New Power Generation, play on the title track, and the musical duo that would become part of Prince's rhythm section many years later, Joshua and Cora Coleman (aka C.C.) Dunham, make their first appearance on track 3121. The concert also features famed saxophonist Maceo Parker and his longtime bandmate Sheila E., as well as Tamar, an artist with whom Prince worked closely in the early 2000s and whom he even accompanied on tour as guitarist in 2006. Since 3121 was released on a major label shortly after Musicology, this LP is generally considered his "comeback". 3121 was Prince's first ever album to debut at number one on the Billboard 200, and along with Purple Rain, Around the World in a Day and Batman, only the fourth album in the artist's career to reach the coveted number one spot. Even albums like Parade and Sign 'O' The Times, which are now taken for granted as a sign of Prince's success, failed to conquer that throne. In keeping with its success, the album was nominated for Grammy Awards in several categories. The title track was nominated for Best Urban/Alternative Performance and Best R&B Album, "Black Sweat" for Best Male R&B Vocal Performance and Best R&B Song, and "Beautiful, Loved and Blessed" for Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals.
