Portishead's debut album Dummy was released in 1994 and is often regarded as one of the most important and influential albums of the 1990s. The album was a critical and commercial success and spawned the singles "Sour Times", "Glory Box" and "Roads". Critics praised Dummy for its unique sound, combining elements of trip hop, electronica and jazz, and for Beth Gibbons' ethereal vocals. The album has been cited as an influence by a number of artists and has been described as an important influence on the development of trip hop, electronica and alternative rock.
