Overkill je americká thrashmetalová skupina, která vznikla v New Jersey v roce 1980. Často jsou označováni jako "Motörhead thrash metalu" díky svému jedinečnému stylu hraní, který byl ovlivněn punk rockem a novou vlnou britského heavy metalu. Byli také jednou z prvních thrashmetalových kapel, která podepsala smlouvu s velkým vydavatelstvím (Atlantic Records v roce 1986), a proslavili se jako součást žánrového hnutí v polovině a na konci 80. let spolu s "velkou čtyřkou" (Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer a Anthrax) a skupinami Exodus a Testament.

Overkill dosáhli prvního mainstreamového úspěchu se svým druhým studiovým albem a zároveň debutem Atlantic Taking Over (1987), které bylo celosvětově chváleno a uspělo v hitparádách. Dalších pět studiových alb kapely vyšlo rovněž u Atlanticu - Under the Influence (1988), The Years of Decay (1989), Horrorscope (1991), I Hear Black (1993) a W.F.O. (1994) - a byla rovněž celosvětově úspěšná, což z nich učinilo jednu z nejúspěšnějších thrashových kapel na východním pobřeží.
