The group was founded in 1982 by teenagers Bon Harris, David Gooday and singer Douglas McCarthy. By choosing a band name and an unusual tz for English, Nitzer Ebb wanted to distinguish themselves from the British music scene. As of 2018, Nitzer Ebb / Nitzer Ebb product simd has the founding line-up (Douglas McCarthy, Bon Harris, David Gooday) and temporary member Simon Granger back. This renewed return was kicked off with the re-release of all recordings released on Mute Records as a box set (plus bonus material) on the Pylon Records label.
