Product information This debut album by Motörhead, now remastered and with added bass, was recorded in a few quick days at Escape in 1977 and it shows. From the opening bass roar of the eponymous title track, it's continuous, relentless, churning, brain-busting, heavy rock'n'roll. This is no lumbering heavy metal band fronted by some poodle-headed castrato - no, this is the real deal, dirty and greasy and with its boots firmly planted in rock'n'roll. Ian "Lemmy" Kilmister had the right ingredients to finally create Motörhead in 1975. Growing up on rock'n'roll in the '50s, he was a member of the Shel Talmy-produced beat group Rockin' Vicars, worked as a sideman for Jimi Hendrix, and played in Sam Gopal's popular Roundhouse's Dream before joining the ultimate psychedelic weirdos Hawkwind in 1969. Lemmy was too much for them, however, and after a minor run-in with customs officials over substance abuse at the Canadian border, he was deported. Hawkwind's loss was the rock 'n' roll world's gain, as they formed a band that was first called Bastard and later renamed Motörhead. Blue Touch Paper was effectively sparked into a new and deadly approach to "heavy music" that culminated in the birth of speed metal by the "bastard children" of Lemmy's brain. After disastrous beginnings and several false starts and personnel changes, Motörhead accidentally recorded an album for Chiswick Records. It started as a farewell single and ended up launching a career that continues to this day. Not only has this release been remastered from the original analog mixes, giving grunge its full frequency and in-your-face vibe, but the cover art features a liner note from Chiswick Records supremo Ted Carroll that tells the whole far-fetched story of the roller coaster ride that was the Motörhead recording process. We've added City Kids, the B-side of the Motörhead single and four cuts that appeared on the later out-takes EP "Beer Drinkers and Hell Raisers" first released in 1980. As Lemmy once said... For the 40th anniversary (August 21, 1977), the legendary debut is re-released as a deluxe CD with red cover art, silver logo and 12 bonus tracks! Without a valid recording contract, Motörhead decided to disband and play one last concert in the spring of 1977 due to the failure. During this concert, Ted Carroll of Chiswick Records was present and offered the musicians a single release deal. The recordings were made into a complete album, which was released in September 1977 under the title "Motörhead". Produced by former Thunderclap member Newman "Speedy" Keen and recorded by Kilmister, Taylor and Clarke, it reached number 43 in the UK Albums Chart, marking the band's first commercial success. What was to follow is well known!
