The greatest soul voice of today, Michael Kiwanuka, conquered the international charts with his debut four years ago. In his homeland, the UK, the soul singer even reached number four in the album chart. In 2016, "Love & Hate" is finally the long-awaited successor to "Home Again" (2012). After promoting the number one album around the world for some time, Kiwanuka withdrew from the public eye and dedicated himself to writing "Love & Hate" for about two years. The result is ten new songs that the singer recorded with star producer Brian Burton aka Danger Mouse (Jay Z, The Black Keys, Beck, U2). The singer has already hinted at the sound of the new album with the singles "Black Man In A White World" and the title track "Love & Hate". Both songs show that Michael Kiwanuka stays true to his blend of soul, jazz, blues and folk on his new album, but leans a little more towards rock here and there. The sound seems grittier overall, though the singer's hauntingly soulful voice is still the clear focal point of all the tracks.
