The $5.98 E.P. - Garage Days Re-Revisited is an EP by American heavy metal band Metallica , released on August 21, 1987. The EP was released independently by the band and was their first release on their own label, Blackened Recordings. The EP was recorded in Lars Ulrich's home garage in El Cerrito, California in 1987. The EP's title is a reference to the price of the tape at the time. The EP consists of five cover versions that the band chose because "they were influenced by bands we liked and we wanted to pay tribute to them". The songs are "Helpless" by Diamond Head, "The Small Hours" by Holocaust, "The Wait" by Killing Joke, "Crash Course in Brain Surgery" by Budgie and "Metal Militia" by Motörhead. The EP was met with mixed reviews from music critics. Some critics praised the band's interpretation of the songs, while others criticized the band for not writing their own material. The EP charted at number 38 on the Billboard 200 and was certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).
