KING DIAMOND began his musical career in 1973 and achieved his first success with BLACK ROSE in 1979. In 1981, he joined the BRATS, a group that included his later bandmates Hank Sherman and Michael Denner. In 1983 they eventually formed the legendary MERCYFUL FATE and since then he has been an important and indispensable part of the underground heavy metal scene. It has become hugely successful, yet has always been embraced by the scene. His characteristic dramatic lyrics, theatricality and sheer dazzling personality combined with powerful and melancholic music were undeniable when he launched his solo career in 1986 under the moniker KING DIAMOND, alongside the still existing MERCYFUL FATE. KING contributed new ideas and previously unheard stylistic elements to heavy metal like no other. With his love of horror embodied in his music, he broke new ground and brought a fresh wind to the scene. All of this has brought KING to the pinnacle of heavy metal. He was a decisive influence not only on bands like Metallica, Megadeth and Slayer.
