Their penchant for improvisation and penchant for playing the latest material, often unreleased at the time of the concerts, is legendary. Fewer bands, whether by accident or design, have recorded as many of their concerts. Starless offers an in-depth look at one of the most important bands of the era in one of its most celebrated lineups. Autumn 1973: when King Crimson's second longest American tour ended that year, a small tour of England followed in late October, and a more extensive European tour was already planned for November. Three concerts in Glasgow, Zurich and Amsterdam were recorded on multi-track tapes. The material from Amsterdam was used as the basis for the album "Starless & Bible Black", which was released in January 1974. From mid-March to the end of April, the band toured Europe again, promoting the album with their last European shows of the 1970s before leaving for another US tour. Some of these concerts were recorded on stereo tapes directly from the loudspeaker on the night of the concert. These recordings were often referred to as "The Blue Tapes" (after the color of the original boxes) and are prized for the quality of the recordings and performances. The box set presents 18 CDs of live recordings, seven of which are mixed from the 1973 multi-track tapes and the other 11 with "The Blue Tapes" released in their entirety for the first time. Also included are CDs of ORTF's Paris TV footage and a stereo mix of the 2011 album "Starless & Bible Black". Two DVD-A discs and two Blu-ray discs contain concert and studio recordings in stereo, quadraphonic and 5.1 surround sound - all in High-Resolution Audio quality.
