A poem from Henry Adams' autobiography An Education was the inspiration for Jóhann Jóhannsson's unique composition Prayer to Dynamo, which had its world premiere at the 2012 New Music Festival in Winnipeg. Henry Adams' mystical and almost religious encounter with the new explosive energy at an exhibition called the Great Hall of Dynamos (as part of the 1900 World Exhibition in Paris) impressed Jóhannsson so much that he integrated the recorded sounds of drones and dynamos along with 50 Hz humming into the harmony and musical structure of his new composition.
