He composed and recorded 13 tracks for it, and as with its predecessor, he invited some truly top-notch musicians into the studio. This time around, drummer Kenny Aronoff (John Fogerty), bassist Chris Chaney (Jane's Addiction) and keyboardist Eric Caudieux are on board. Lisa Coleman (The Revolution, Wendy & Lisa) and Christopher Guest will also appear in the Shapeshifting series. Satriani produced the record himself along with Jim Scott, who has worked behind the mixing desk for bands like the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Foo Fighters. The mastering was done by John Cuniberti. He revealed the sound of "Shapeshifting" in advance with the single "Nineteen Eighty". And once again he confirms his reputation as a guitar virtuoso and a gifted rock composer.
