Volunteers is the fifth album by Jefferson Airplane , released in 1969. It was their first album after the departure of Marty Balin and the first to feature singer Grace Slick and drummer Spencer Dryden. The album was recorded in the aftermath of the Manson Family murders, and the lyrics reflect the band's growing disillusionment with the counterculture movement. The album was commercially successful and reached number four on the Billboard 200 chart.
