Happy Xmas mixes well-known Christmas classics with lesser-known ones, complete with new songs from Clapton's pen, such as For Love On Christmas Day. "I thought the Christmas songs could be recorded with a slight blues touch. So I started thinking about how to incorporate blues lines between the vocals," Clapton explains. "I was able to do it best with Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas, which defined the basic style."
