With this CD AIR embarks on its Baroque pilgrimage; it is a kind of story of four outstanding composers, three of whom - Falconiero, Matteis and Geminiani - were violin virtuosos in Italy and the fourth - Westhoff - in Germany. They wandered through 17th and 18th century Europe, seeking musical inspiration and thus mixing different musical influences; their music and the art of playing captivated and delighted rulers and general audiences alike.
This album shows just how diverse the music of the Baroque was. Air mixes the simplest and most primitive
forms of dance music with the most sophisticated and revolutionary compositions, culminating in the work of J.S. Bach, whose composition also gave this collection (which also includes the popular Pachelbel Canon and Handel's Sarabande) its title.
