Coldplay: 'Ghost Stories' - their brand new sixth studio album It's Time. Coldplay is back with their sixth album "Ghost Stories". In 2012, they toured the world with their fifth album "Mylo Xyloto". They then recorded the new album in their own studios in London until early 2014. Two pre-released singles "Midnight" (February 2014) and "Magic" (April 2014) reveal a changed sound. In contrast to the instrumental complexity of "Mylo Xyloto", the quartet presents a reduced, typical Coldplay sound in "Ghost Stories". Coldplay frontman Chris Martin welcomed the audience with the words: "Welcome to my standup comedy show." With that phrase, he sets up a conundrum that lends itself to ghost stories: Should we laugh at him? Certainly not, because he's a sad hero. In the songs Magic and Ink, he sings about tough, painful love. Songs like "Oceans" demand a lot from his voice. The comparison to a stand-up artist on stage is fitting because Chris Martin is the driving force behind the whole record. In "Ghost Stories" he embodies the mostly sad love hero as the representative of the whole band, and not just in the music video for "Magic". The listener's identification with the ghost stories being told stands and falls with the singer's voice, which shows how versatile he is here. He gives it his all and draws us into the stories of Coldplay's album. It's fun to get into. From the piano ballad "O" to musically lighter tracks like "True Love," "Ghost Stories" offers a lot of room for interpretation of the heartfelt blanks of the stories.
